The Department of Transportation (DOT) will close down a portion of the East Bay Bike Path that connects Providence and East Providence on Monday, July 9. It will be reopened in two years once construction is complete.
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will start the construction of a new linear park and bikeway over the old Washington Bridge between Providence and East Providence. Due to the construction, the Department must close the portion of the East Bay Bike Path that crosses the old Washington Bridge on Monday, July 9, 2012. This section of the bike path will be closed for approximately two years, according to a press release. During the closure, experienced cyclists who commute to work by bike may use the Henderson Bridge to cross the Seekonk River. No formal bike path detour will be established. It has been closed since last fall for City of East Providence sewer construction.
A closed segment of the East Bay Bike Path, from Veterans Memorial Parkway to Riverside Square in East Providence, is scheduled to open on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, according to the Department of Transportation.

Locals should not use the East Bay Bike Path starting Sunday night due to path maintenance. It will be reopened on Monday morning.
RIDOT is scheduled to conduct crack sealing operations on the East Bay Bike Path from 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, until 6 a.m. on Monday, May 7. The area to be sealed is from Riverside Square in East Providence to Thames Street in Bristol. Cyclists and other path users should avoid the bikeway during this important operation which will improve the riding surface and prevent further cracking, according to RIDOT. The schedule is weather-dependent and subject to change.

A 2.5-mile section of the path will be open again in early May.
A 2.5-mile portion of the East Bay Bike Path remains closed through early May 2012 as sewer work is completed, according to reports from the Rhode Island Department of Transportation. The segment runs from Veterans Memorial Parkway to Riverside Square. Officials from the R.I. Department of Transportation remind locals that the bridges along the bike path are out of service making it "especially dangerous" to access this segment of the closed bikeway and say to observe all closure signs for safety.

A section of the East Bay Bike Path will be closed starting November until the installation of new East Providence sewage systems is complete.
Cyclists looking to take a winter ride on the scenic East Bay Bike Path, will need to take their trek to the streets - at least in East Providence. The city's Department of Public Works is installing a new sewage system and sewer force main that will close down 2.5 miles of the East Providence's path between Nov. 1 and April of next year. The project will help stop sewage overflow at Watchemoket Cove, home to the city's largest largest pump station. Work will be done along Veterans Memorial Parkway, ending at the treatment plant in Riverside. One of the best parts of cruising the East Bay Bike Path through Riverside is getting to pass the Dari Bee. It's a tempting treat, for sure, one that some undoubtedly give into. Patch stopped by recently to capture this quintessential summer scene. Is it a sweet refreshment after a strenuous workout, or an exercise spoiler? Could be either, but regardless, it's oh so good on these hot August days.

I am glad that they have not forgotten the person who started this whole idea in E. P. George Redmond (the correct spelling of his name) was a true advocate for the bike path for years. this is a great tribute to a devoted man for this cause. Well deserved and glad that he was remembered.   more ›
