A dog that got stuck in the grill of a Toyota Camry and survived an 11-mile ride from Taunton, Mass., to East Providence, was returned to its owners yesterday.
Suzie could otherwise be called Lucky. The small poodle mix got wedged into the grill of a Toyota Camry and survived an 11-mile ride from Taunton, Mass., to East Providence. Yesterday, the dog, which had been kept at the East Providence Animal Shelter as it recovered from only minor injuries — amazingly — was returned to its owners after they saw her on the news. Animal Control Officer Evan Barlow said the owners ran down to the shelter to reclaim the dog and provided convincing evidence that the dog was theirs, including paperwork that showed a number that matched a microchip implanted in the dog. The owners declined to be identified. Suzie was struck by a car on Route 44. The driver apparently didn't realize the dog was wedged into the …

The dog, wedged into the grille of a Toyota from Taunton to East Providence, somehow didn't suffer serious injury.
A little dog survived a harrowing 11-mile ride stuck inside the grille of a car from Taunton to East Providence and now East Providence Animal Control is looking for its owner. The dog was struck by a car after it ran into the road in Taunton and survived the trip to East Providence, according to WPRI. East Providence Animal Control said the driver was going about 50 mph near Segregansett Country Club in Taunton when the dog was struck. The driver didn't realize the dog was hit. Someone flagged the driver down 11 miles later. The driver went to East Providence Police and the dog was freed from the grille of the car, where it had become wedged next to the license plate and license plate cover. The dog managed to avoid serious injury, …

According to the National Weather Service, the area is on the cusp of a brutal, if brief, heat wave. The Humane Society of the United States offers the following tips for keeping your pets safe and cool during the extreme heat this week: Never leave your pets in a parked car. On a warm day, temperatures inside a vehicle can rise rapidly to dangerous levels. On an 85 degree day, for example, the temperature inside a car with the windows opened slightly can reach 102 degrees within 10 minutes. After 30 minutes, the temperature will reach 120 degrees. Your pet may suffer irreversible organ damage or die. If you see an animal in distress in a parked car, contact the nearest animal shelter or police. Shade and water are a must. Anytime your pet…

Carol Anne Costa shared these photos of a coyote taken three weeks ago.
Officials from the Department of Environmental Management recently put down a sick coyote near South Broadway after multiple residents reported sighting to the city's animal control officer. Coyote packs live in East Providence; officials only kill the sickly ones. They recommend that residents refrain from feeding the animals to reduce human interaction. Carol Anne Costa shared these photos taken of a coyote about three weeks ago.
The mangy animal was suffering due to starvation and mite infestation.
Officials from the Department of Environmental Management (DEM) put down a sickly coyote along South Broadway on Wednesday. The mangy animal was plagued by mites and was becoming more bold with humans to retrieve food, said William Muggle, East Providence Animal Control Officer. The department received at least one call a day to report sightings. "He was extremely ill. He had no fur left, his tail was rotting off," Muggle said. "He was starving to death." After tracking him and other coyotes in the city for month, officials from the Department of Environmental Management met with Muggle near 1281 South Broadway to discuss this particularly mangy animal. At that time, the animal came closer to the officials and they shot him. "He came out …

To the editor, I would like to thank the East Providence Animal Control, East Providence Police Department, and Environmental Police for their hard work and diligence in resolving part of the coyote problem here in the city. Over the past several months, we have had one mangy coyote living and feeding on private property in the community putting many seniors, children, and pets in serious danger. Although coyotes are generally afraid of any interaction with humans, when they are fed, they have a tendency to attack. It is advised that people not approach or chase these animals, as they are not domesticated, but with curiousity, people tend to be drawn to the animals and this is when accidents occur. Environmental Police were able to safely …

This black cat is not bad luck.
“Intelligence in the cat is underrated.” - Louis Wain CJ is an all black domestic shorthair feline. He came to East Providence Animal Control on Jan 9. According to staff reports, a married couple that lost their cat found CJ believing he might be their lost cat. They brought him to the vet and found out he was not their beloved. "The couple then brought him to our facility so he could find a good home," according to staff. The cost of adoption is very affordable since CJ is neutered and he is current on his rabies vaccine. CJ is very friendly, and he loves attention. CJ loves to lounge around and has a very mellow personality. He seems to get along well with children, other cats and does not seem to mind dogs. If interested in CJ, or want…
