The Rhode Island Board of Elections will reread ballots on Monday.
Less than 100 votes cast in Tuesday's primary gave Democrat Gregg Amore the win in Rhode Island House District 65 over opponents Timothy Chapman and James Miller. That small margin is reason for Chapman to challenge the ballot counts. According to members of the Rhode Island Board of Elections, Chapman requested a recount but will only get a reread on Monday. Members will reinsert memory packs into voting machines to determine the ballot count, said Stephen Quirk of the board. According to Tuesday's Rhode Island Board of Election tallies, Amore defeated his two opponents with 845 votes (40.5 percent of the vote). Timothy Chapman received 784 votes (37.6 percent of the vote). James Miller received 456 votes (21.9 percent of the vote).
The top two candidates from Ward 2 and Ward 3 will compete in November's General Election.
East Providence voters decided the top choice city council candidates from Ward 2 and 3 in Tuesday's Rhode Island Primary. From Ward 2, Mayor Bruce Rogers will run against Helder Cunha in November's election. From Ward 3, Assistant Rose Jr. will face Candy Seel. Ward 2 Election Breakdown: Ward 3 Election Breakdown:

The Rhode Island State Police were not at Kent Heights Elementary School as of 4 p.m.
A solid stream of East Providence voters made their way to the polls to cast their vote in Tuesday's Rhode Island Primary. As of 4 p.m., the polls at Kent Heights Elementary School registered almost 550 registered voters cast ballots in the primary. According to Assistant Mayor Thomas Rose Jr., who was campaigning alongside state representative hopeful Roberto DaSilva, 20 to 25 percent voter turnout is expected. Some voters walking out of the booths said they voted for DaSilva due to influence from teachers unions. As of late afternoon, Rhode Island State Police officers were not on the scene to monitor voting irregularities. According to residents outside the school, a handful of voters were given the wrong ballots. The errors were …

Curious to know a bit more about Democratic candidates running for legislative offices before hitting the polls? Here are some highlights from last week's debate hosted by the Rhode Island League for Women Voters. DaSilva said taxes are a main concern for many residents and would fight hikes, adding many Townies are on fixed incomes. "I am not [running for] Senate to be in the marble palace," he said, noting that he fought vehicle tax increases. Incumbent DaPonte retorted that tax increases are never popular; however, they are necessary to avoid major economic strife across the state. DaPonte said pension reform was imperative to avoid reoccurring debt and he is happy with the approved legislation. DaPonte and DaSilva both said they would…
