Waterfront Development Gets Impetus

Waterfront District chairman points to Tockwotton on the Waterfront and the proposed Village on the Waterfront as giving vibrancy and vitality to East Providence.

In many ways, the recent grand opening of Tockwotton on the Waterfront serves as a pivotal moment for East Providence. Originally announced in 2004, this facility was among one of the initial projects intended for construction within the City’s newly formed Waterfront District.   Fortunately, the officials of Tockwotton shared our vision of capitalizing on this incredibly underutilized asset for the City.  Now that the project is complete, it has been an impetus for further undertakings which are presently taking hold in the District south of US 195.  In fact, there has been an almost immediate spike in interest in several adjacent buildings that have been vacant for years. This is awesome. So many have a negative view of our city but I look around and see how great things can be. We just need to get our finances in order and move forward thinking about the good of the city and not the good of the few with connections.   more ›

City Council's Waterfront Briefing Postponed

The special meeting of the East Providence City Council and the Waterfront District Commission for tonight has been put off.

The special meeting of the East Providence City Council with the Waterfront District Commission scheduled for tonight, Jan. 23, has been postponed. Jeanne Boyle, director of the city planning department, said the special meeting conflicted with the public hearing scheduled in Riverside Middle School to hear the recommendation to close Oldham Elementary School. At least several of the city councilors planned to attend that hearing. The meeting of the City Council with the waterfront commisson will be rescheduled, Boyle said. It was to have provided an overview on the waterfront district for the city councilors.

Waterfront Briefing for City Council

East Providence City Council holds a special meeting on Wednesday evening with the Waterfront District Commission.

The East Providence City Council holds a special meeting with the Waterfront District Commission on Wednesday evening, Jan. 23, in City Hall. The meeting starts at 6:30 pm in Room 306. The public session will provide an overview on the waterfront district for the city councilors. Other business will include an application by the East Providence Fire Department for a boat dock at Bold Point Park, an update on Kettle Point, which is for sale, and reports from the legal counsel and executive director. 'Green' Cash for 'Waterfront' Firms

The East Providence Waterfront District Commission has set up a 'Green Business Loan Program."

  Are you using "green" technologies in your East Providence waterfront business? The East Providence Waterfront District Commission has established a "Green Business Loan Program," according to the East Providence Chamber of Commerce. Loans can be had for between $10,000 and $75,000. The loans are designed "to assist with the expansion of existing businesses and the growth of new businesses within the district by encouraging the use of energy-efficient and 'green' technologies," according to the chamber. The funding is administered by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
