Heat Advisory Issued on First Day of Summer
The first official day of summer hit temperatures in the '90s.
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory lasting until 7 p.m. tonight as temperatures throughout the region reached up into the '90s. Experts recommend to stay out of the sun, take frequent water breaks and reschedule outdoor activities until later in the day. Animals and children should not be left in vehicles. The timing is appropriate as today is the first day of summer, also known as summer solstice. The actual moment of the solstice will occur at about 7:09 p.m. this evening, while the sun sits directly above the Pacific Ocean to the west of Hawaii.
