Carousel 'Very High Priority' for Mayor

A special meeting of the East Providence City Council will be held Monday, Feb. 11, to focus on the city’s historic tourist icon -- the Looff Carousel in Crescent Park. The special meeting was set up by Mayor James Briden at Tuesday’s regular City Council session. He said there are two “very high priority” issues that must be dealt with as soon as possible: “I spent last Friday evening reviewing the carousel issues with Tim Chapman,” said Briden. “We concluded that we need a vote on the issue of the RFP for repair work prior to going to the East Providence Budget Commission.” “We need to expedite repairs as soon as possible,” he said. “This is very important to the city.
