Patch Joins Moment of Silence for Newtown Shooting Victims

The company-wide blackout is to honor the memory of those killed last Friday in Connecticut

Today at 9:30 am, Patch will join with AOL in a company-wide blackout as a "moment of silence" to honor the victims of the school shooting in Newtown, Conn., last Friday. "The campaign was inspired by a call for a moment of silence by Connecticut’s Governor, and spearheaded by Causes and SV Angel. It follows a coalition of tech leaders calling for more gun control," according to Techcrunch,. Other companies likely taking part in the "Web Moment of Silence" include Adobe, Duke University, Salesforce and WillCall. How will you remember the victims? Tell us in the comments.

In the wake of the Newtown, CT shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, East Providence parents may find their children hearing about the tragedy or seeing it on the news and find themselves in a difficult discussion. For parents seeking guidance on how to address the tragedy with their own children, if it comes up, PBS has an article with flexible suggestions for answering kids' questions about the news. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) also has a 24-hour hotline dedicated to providing disaster crisis counseling at 1-800-985-5990 or by texting "TalkWithUs" to 66746.
