E.P. Man Among 8 Arrested for Child Pornography Possession

Rhode Island State Police announced the results of "Operation Iceberg," which charged eight Rhode Islanders with possession of child pornography.

  A young East Providence man, 18, was among eight Rhode Island residents arrested by the State Police on child pornography charges on Tuesday, April 30. State Police officers presented Rafael Melo, of 850 Broadway, Apartment 8, for arraignment in Sixth District Court, Warwick, on one count each of possession and transfer of child pornography. Col. Steven O'Donnell said in a statement that the Computer Crimes Unit/Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force led an undercover operation, called "Operation Iceberg," that identified the eight men, and that follow-up investigation found "[n]umerous images and videos of child pornography" on their computers and digital media. State Police Adding New Year Patrols

They will be stepping up enforcement for speeding, driving while impaired, aggressive driving, texting violations, seat belt, and child restraint violations.

Colonel Steven G. O’Donnell, superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police, announced today that during the upcoming New Year’s holiday, the Rhode Island State Police, through funding obtained by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, Office on Highway Safety, will have additional patrols throughout the state. The Rhode Island State Police will be stepping up enforcement for speeding, driving while impaired, aggressive driving, texting violations, seat belt, and child restraint violations. These patrols are in addition to regular patrols and are targeting impaired and reckless operators. State Police Arrest 32 in 'Drive Sober' Campaign

The State Police arrested 32 people on DUI charges and issued 2,199 citations during its "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.

  Rhode Island State Police announced they arrested 32 drivers on charges of drunken driving in a span of 18 days as part of its "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign. The campaign kicked off Aug. 17 with troopers focusing traffic enforcement on targeting drunk drivers, aggressive drivers, texting while driving and seat belt and speeding violations.  During the initiative, the State Police made 2,922 motor vehicle stops and issued 2,199 citations for various traffic offenses. Additionally, 32 drivers were arrested and charged with drunken driving. One of those 32 DUI suspects was a Warwick man who was arrested twice in one week on DUI charges.
