Every 'Ka-Ching' Going to Food Bank

Seven Stars Bakery in East Providence and Providence annually donates the sales on the day of its founding, Jan. 2, to the food bank.

Seven Stars Bakery in the Rumford Center – all of the bakery chain’s three stores, actually -- continued an anniversary-day community-giving effort on Wednesday.  Every Jan. 2, the day the bakery opened its first Providence store back in 2001, the owners donate 100 percent of their thousands of dollars in sales to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. “Some of the staff also donate their tips,” said Leah Bartwell, office and wholesale manager for Seven Stars Bakery. Owners Lynn and Jim Williams began the "anniversary give back" in 2006, said Bartwell. Over the last six years, Seven Stars owners have raised $47,000 to help feed Rhode Islanders in need.

The owners of Seven Stars Bakery will donate 100 percent of their Jan. 2 profits to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. Over the last six years, Seven Stars has raised $47,000 to help feed Rhode Islanders in need. “On this special day, we express our thanks to our customers and our community by remembering that there are many Rhode Islanders who are struggling to put food on the table for their families," said co-owner Lynn Williams, in a press release.
