On the article Rep. Canario Urges Toll Opponents to Testify on Bills

No matter what the previous hearings were, this will be the first hearing before a committee of the General Assembly to take testimony about an actual bill that would stop the tolls from going into effect. RITBA already has their mind made up. But the General Assembly has the power to eliminate the toll proposal, and there is at least a possibility that the General Assembly could vote to do so.
Note to the wise: ranting and raving won't help our cause. Hard data, facts, rational persuasive arguments, these are the things that should be presented at the hearing.

WRONG! The local politicians tried to keep tolls OFF the bridge. Gallison, Edwards, Ottiano, Reilly, Gordon... they all voted against the toll proposal. It was Paiva-Weed from Newport, and the gaggle of the rest of them form up state who stabbed us in the back.

Fred, I've read the law. I can only tell you two things: First, I am not afraid of transgender people and (if I ever meet one) I'll treat them with the same dignity and respect for their identity as I do for anyone else. Second, MassResistance is a bona fide SPLC-certified hate group that is classifued as a hate group not just because they hate gay people but because they knowingly spread lies and defamatory statements about gay people.
It doesn't matter that you can point to an actual law. It matters that MassResistance is twisting the facts about that law in such a way as to make you (and others) be very afraid of and disdainful towards our fellow LGBT Americans.

--- "First, they have the exact same rights to marry as anyone else, that is they can marry a consenting adult of the opposite gender."
That is a completely illogical argument. It's the same thing as if a law was passed requiring everyone to pray only in a Catholic Church. When Jewish people complain you would say, "They have the exact same rights to pray as anyone else, that is they can pray in any Catholic Church they want."

A "couple of years" ago? Really, Fred, at make an attempt to be honest. Marriage equality has been the law in Massachusetts since 2004, which is NINE years ago -- practically a decade. And, last time I went to Massachusetts, I just happened to notice that the sky had not fallen.

Marriage is a civil right. That fact is not open to debate. It is very long settled laws. The Supreme Court of the United States, in a line of 14 cases dating back to the 1880s, has held that marriage is a fundamental civil right. Right, katherine, I get it and I agree. I just was pointing out the disconnect between those who insist on "strict construction" of the constitution and yet also believe at the same time that the constitution has to be fluid and interpreted in light of modern context.

About the constitution, here's what I don't get. How come the right-wing strict constructionist types insist that the constitution can only mean what that framers meant when they wrote it for everything... except when it comes to the 2nd amendment? If the 2nd amendment can only mean what the framers intended, then wouldn't it be constitutional for people to be limited to single round muzzle loaders?

um... letting them just sit on the pressure cooker is too good for them.
