The Sweet Tooth for Your Sweet Tooth

The small bake shop opens in East Providence on Taunton Avenue not far from City Hall.

Have a sweeth tooth? There is a new bake shop in East Providence for you.

It goes by the name, The Sweet Tooth. It opened about a month ago at 99A Taunton Ave., across the street from Sacred Heart church and just down the street from City Hall. Most recently, the site was a flower shop.

A Boston police officer, David Zuller, and his aunt, Lisa Bazzle, a dental hygienist who began training at age 40 to be a pastry chef at Johnson & Wales University, own the business. A cousin and brother, Anthony Bazzle, is the store manager.

“Our family has been in the food industry for a long time,” said Zuller.

Their grandfather owned a shop in North Providence for many years, he said.

“I’ve always wanted to own a business,” said Zuller, a Providence Country Day School graduate. “I guess I have the entrepreneurial spirit.”

Zuller is not considering turning in his badge, though, unless the shop becomes incredibly successful. Bazzle would love to switch careers full time, Zuller said. In the meantime, they will both do the baking when they are not working their day jobs.

The shop specializes in filled cupcakes, mini-cakes, mini-pies and some novelty items, such as their Maid of Honor – a half cake, half pie filled pastry. The shop also offers custom-ordered cakes for anniversaries, birthdays, communions, confirmations, graduations, showers, and weddings – you name it.

Right now, said Zuller, the shop also is pushing Boston Strong cupcakes filled with Boston cream and other pastries. They will donate 10 percent of the purchase price to the One Fund and the First Responders fund in Boston.

Zuller was one of the police officers on duty during the Boston Marathon bombing. Neither fund, he said, is raising as much money as was hoped.

“They’re coming up a little short of their goals,” he said.

The shop will deliver within a few miles of its location, Zuller said, with a minimum $10 purchase. You can call the shop at 369-7966 to place order.

Hours are 8 am to 6 pm on weekdays and 8 am to 1 pm on weekends.
