Monday Essentials: Vets, Council, Food Drives and Flo

Veterans Day - Today is Veterans Day, a national holiday set aside to honor servicemen and women who have served in the armed forces. This year, Woonsocket's celebration returns to the Museum of Work and Culture, 42 South Main St. at 10 a.m.

There are no official events in the EP today, but you can pay your respects with a visit to one of the city's memorials:
City Council - The EP City Council will meet Friday, 4 p.m. in Council Chambers to interview candidates for interim City Manager. To get a preview of the names and a talk with a few of the candidates, check out our story from the last meeting.

Food Drive underway - Oxford Tavern is running a food drive through November to benefit East Bay Community Action's food pantry program. People interested in making a donation can drop food off at the tavern, 446 Waterman Ave., Tuesday through Saturday from 4:30 to 11 p.m.

RI Food Bank collecting Rhode Island Community Food Bank received 1,000 turkeys this week from Stop & Shop, which is delivering turkeys to food banks across the region they serve. You can help them meet their goal of collecting 350,000 pounds of food by dropping off food any weekday (except holidays) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 200 Niantic Avenue, Providence.

Go for Flo - Friends and colleagues of Florence Perry, long-time resident of East Providence, have established a scholarship through CSF of East Providence in her memory.

Florence was a secretary for the East Providence School Department from 1964-1990, ten years at Union Primary Elementary School and 16 years at the School Administration Office.  She passed away on Oct. 1, 2013 at the age of 85 after a long illness.

Florence loved music, dancing, playing cards, flowers, but most of all, a coffee Awful Awful.
